Level 3’s Laurinda Pang to head merged CenturyLink’s operations outside North America

Former Global Crossing executive Laurinda Pang is to head CenturyLink’s operations in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Asia, and Latin America, following the company’s takeover of Level 3 Communications.

She has been with Level 3 since it bought Global Crossing in 2011.

Pang’s official title is executive vice president, global accounts management and international, and she will be responsible for sales, revenue generation and enterprise service delivery for the merged company’s top global accounts.

Her role is one of 10 that CEO Glen Post has announced in the merged CenturyLink/Level 3 organisation. Shareholders of both companies have approved the $34 billion deal, which should be completed by 30 September 2017. The companies are still waiting for a number of state, US federal and international approvals.

“We have assembled an incredibly talented and experienced executive team that is well positioned to lead the combined company and drive our increased enterprise focus,” Post said.

“With the assets we will have as a result of this strategic combination and with this leadership team in place at closing, we believe we will be positioned to deliver strong performance not only in the United States, but also in our expanded markets globally.”

At Level 3, Pang was vice president of customer experience re-engineering and then of human resources.

The person in charge of integrating the two operations will be Clay Bailey, who has been with CenturyLink since 1992 and will be senior vice president for transformation.

CenturyLink chief technology officer Aamir Hussain retains his role in the merged company. Level 3’s chief financial officer Sunit Patel has the same role in the merged operation.

As chief relationship officer, Gary Gauba will be responsible for building relationships with C-suite executives in the company’s top customers – a similar role to that he has held at the pre-merger CenturyLink. He was previously CEO of big data company Cognilytics, which CenturyLink bought in 2014.

Post has not yet named a chief marketing officer. Former Global Crossing executive Anthony Christie still appears on Level 3’s website as CMO, and CenturyLink named Bill Hurley as its CMO in 2016.
