Equinix has announced five new International Business Exchange data centres and 14 expansions of existing facilities as a part of a $1bn expansion program. Equinix also announced that Verizon has agreed to resell Equinix colocation and interconnection services.
Equinix has invested more than $17 billion (including the planned acquisition of a portfolio of data centres from Verizon) to extend its global footprint.
The REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) has been expanding rapidly during the course of the past year particularly and has opened new data centres in Dallas, Sydney and Tokyo, and integrated the acquisitions of Bit-isle in Japan and the UK’s Telecity Group.

Equinix currently operates 150 IBX data centers in 21 countries and 41 metros across 14 million gross square feet of data centre space.
Equinix has also announced that Verizon has agreed to resell Equinix colocation and interconnection services. The reseller agreement enables Verizon to pair colocation and interconnection services in Equinix IBX data centres around the globe with Verizon's security, network and advanced communications services to enable enterprises to build hybrid cloud solutions and gain quick access to a multi-cloud environment.
