CEMIGTelecom expands DWDM network to Sao Paulo

Brazilian carrier CEMIGTelecom has expanded DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) network to cover the state of Sao Paulo.

The expansion of CEMIG’s optical backbone now runs from Pouso Alegre (Minas Gerais) to Cotia (Sao Paulo), offering transmission rates of up to 100Gbps.

It takes CEMIGTelecom’s presence to more than 90 cities across five states. It owns more than 6,300km of metropolitan networks and more than 9,300km of optical cables.

The expanded network will also be interconnected to another one operated by CEMIGTElecom, that runs to Belo Horizonte.

The expanded network uses Padtec’s DWDM technology, which includes Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADMs) technology.

CEMIGTelecom said the expansion meant it has now established points of presence in the largest points of traffic in the world, including New York, Miami and Amsterdam.
