AWS Direct Connect PoP in London for Equinix

Equinix has announced plans to integrate AWS Direct Connect services with its Cloud Exchange for virtualised, multi-cloud interconnectivity.

The integration will mean UK-based companies will no longer have to access AWS via facilities in Dublin, with the service being offered in 13 of Equinix’s global markets, most recently adding London.

Equinix now offers AWS Direct Connect from its LD4, Ld5 and LD6 data centres, meaning its UK customers have the ability to access low-latency, private cloud connectivity without going over the public internet or using a private WAN.

Equinix has long been a partner of Amazon’s cloud division and claims to own and operate more AWS Direct Connect global locations that any other data centre provider.

In a blog on Equinix’s website, global solutios architect Herbert Preuss explained: “Previously, all UK-based companies would access AWS via facilities in the AWS Dublin region. The addition of AWS Direct Connect to the London region means extending UK companies’ ability to access low-latency, private cloud connectivity without going over the public internet or a private WAN.

“More UK-based businesses can now leverage the performance, security and a consistent quality of experience that only direct, private connectivity can deliver.”
