IO’s facility, which is based in Slough, opened in 2015 and will now be renamed LD10. It is located close to Equinix’s existing Slough data centres, LD4, LD5 and LD6.
Equinix plans to expand the LD10 campus to offer colocation space of around 3,340 cabinets. It will tethered to the other Slough data centres, offering low latency connectivity to key markets from London, such as 30ms to New York and 4ms to Frankfurt.
Equinix did not disclose the value of the deal, but IO generated around $1.4 million from its UK business in the year up to December 2015.
The acquisition takes the total number of data centres in Equinix’s portfolio to 147 across 40 markets. It supports nearly 1,300 companies through its UK footprint, with access to more than 200 network service providers.

It marks the latest deal in a number of expansions for Equinix. Last year, it announced a $3.6 billion deal to buy 24 data centres from US carrier Verizon. It also expanded its London footprint with $42 million of investment.
