Ooredoo, Huawei Marine launch Maldives subsea cable

Ooredoo Maldives and Huawei Marine have today announced the inauguration of Ooredoo’s nationwide submarine cable, one year after the partnership to construct the 1,200km project was revealed.

The Nationwide Submarine Cable project is part of Ooredoo’s programme, strengthening its commitment to power a Digital Maldives and its networks by providing high-speed broadband services to all islands and resorts across the Maldives.

Deployed by Huawei Marine utilising its advanced 100G technology, the system stretches across 1,200km, connecting six main islands in Maldives with design capacity of 3.2T.


“Ooredoo’s network upgrade supports the government’s vision of making the Maldives one of the best connected countries across South Asia, and will contribute to taking the ICT industry of the Maldives to the next level,” said Azleen Ahmed, home minister of the Maldives speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Malé.


“Ooredoo continues to demonstrate the power of investment in bringing socioeconomic development to the nation, and we thank them for their incessant service to the Maldives.”
