Bharti Airtel deploys vectorisation to boost broadband speeds to 100Mbps

Bharti Airtel has rolled out vectorisation technology to offer speeds of up to 100Mbps on its fixed broadband footprint in 87 Indian cities.

India’s largest operator has used technology from Chinese vendor Huawei to upgrade its broadband network, which previously only offered speeds up to 16Mbps.

The 100Mbps service will initially launch in Chennai, but will be made available free of cost to the entire network within coming weeks. Airtel is also offering an unlimited three month trial offer for new broadband customers.

This is the first deployment of the technology in India, according to the Economic Times, and one of the largest in the world.

Bharti Airtel director of operations Ajai Puri said: ““India is witnessing an explosive growth in data usage and a lot of in-home data consumption is happening over fixed broadband that offers consistent speeds. Airtel has always innovated ahead of the curve and offered its customers best-in-class broadband technology and experience.

“With ‘V-Fiber’ and our national optic fibre backbone, we are all set to offer a future ready network for tomorrow’s digitally connected homes. This solution, besides reducing our carbon footprint, offers a very quick and convenient upgrade to the customer. We are also delighted to launch our innovative myHome Rewards and unlimited free voice calling facility for our customers.”
