Huawei unveils FMC 3.0 strategy at UBBF

Huawei has revealed its third concept for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), bringing together IoT, WAN, DCN and Campus controllers in one solution.

The solution is an end-to-end management tool which aims to help operators build an on-demand, experience-driven, capillary network, and supporting new technologies including IoT, 4K video and superfast internet.

Huawei unveiled FMC 3.0 at its Ultra Broadband Forum in Frankfurt, Germany, in front of more than 600 gathered industry figures and telecoms operators.

For operators, FMC 1.0 offered broadband connection services which converged the fixed and mobile broadband networks, while 2.0 focused on the monetisation of UBB through content services.

Huawei said FMC 3.0 will focus on positioning video as a core basic service to fulfil customers’ expectations in B2C markets.

For B2B markets, Huawei said it will “cloudify” operators, by which it means moving services to the cloud in order to meet enterprise customers’ demands for more digital services.

Speaking at forum, Huawei president of network solutions David Wang said: “In the intelligent world, telecom operators should rethink their role and business model in the B2C, B2B and IoT markets. Telecom operators’ core business proposition should be centered on the concept of FMC 3.0. By building up a ubiquitous, experience-driven, agile and on-demand ultra-broadband network.”

Also at the conference, the Chinese firm announced a deal that will see it provide its 100G multi-service optical transport network (MS-OTN) solution to Korea Telecom
