Huawei partners with Korea telecom in 100G MS-OTN deal

Huawei has won a contract with Korea Telecom to provide its 100G multi-service optical transport network (MS-OTN) solution for the operator’s metro packet-optical transport network (POTN) project.

To simplify network architecture and improve operational efficiency, Korea Telecom plans to build a comprehensive bearer network for ultra-HD video, 5G, and high-quality leased line services.

MS-OTN implements ODUk, packet, and virtual container (VC) services to provide a simplified and adaptable network solution. It also offers on-demand bandwidth resources and shortens time to market for Huawei’s customs, it claims.

Korea Telecom said it plans to build a comprehensive bearer network for ultra-HD video, 5G, and high-quality leased line services. The agreement was announced at the Chinese vendor’s Ultra Broadband Forum in Frankfurt.

Speaking at the conference, Jeffrey Gao, the president of Huawei Transmission Network Product Line, said: "Huawei MS-OTN solution will help Korea Telecom build a unified transport network with simplified architecture, maintaining Korea Telecom's leading market position, improving its operational efficiency, guaranteeing an optimal user experience, and helping it achieve business success."
