TelcoBridges passes SIP-I interconnection testing

TelcoBridges’ Tmedia gateways have successfully passed the French Federation of Telecommunications’ tests for IP interconnection using the SIP-I interface with Orange.

The hardware by the designer and manufacturer of carrier grade voice over IP (VoIP) media gateways and session border controllers achieved SIP-I interconnection compliance will now make it easier for Tier-2 and Tier-3 service providers or wholesale carriers to deploy with France's Tier-1 carriers.

“Tmedia is fully SIP-I compliant, which opens the door for TelcoBridges and our partners to work with other solutions providers that require SIP-I connections to reach Tier-1 carrier networks such as Orange and SFR,” said Richard Gendron, CEO of TelcoBridges. “Very few media gateways offer SIP-I interconnection that meets Orange SIP-I ‘SPIROU’ specifications to the extent that Tmedia does.”

The goal of the extensive testing was to verify Tmedia's ability to connect to Orange via SIP-I, which is an extension to the standard session initiation protocol (SIP) that enables a wider range of services on VoIP networks.

The certification allows Paris and Lyon-based solutions provider AVM Informatique to connect its VoIP-based telecom services to Orange France’s network. In the past, France’s largest carrier required SS7/ISUP SPIROU interconnections to its network. Nowadays, Orange France recommends that operators connect to its network using SIP or SIP-I. TelcoBridges partner IT-Logiq sold the Tmedia gateways to AVM Informatique.

Jérome Barbier, operator service manager at AVM Informatique, participated in the certification process and added: “The TelcoBridges support team’s rapid response and agility were key to the success of the certification. The Tmedia gateways define what it means to be carrier grade, and they easily passed the rigorous testing process.”
