Vodafone appoints CEO for APMEA region

Vodafone has appointed Vivek Badrinath as chief executive for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa (APMEA) region after he stepped down from Nokia’s board of directors.

Badrinath replaces Serpil Timuray as chief executive. Timuray, who originally replaced former UK chief executive Nick Read in the role in 2014, becomes chief commercial officer for operations and strategy of Vodafone in the region. Timuray joined Vodafone from Danone as chief executive of Vodafone Turkey in early 2009.

“Serpil combines a deep background in brand, marketing and commercial strategies with proven operational leadership across the fastest-growing markets in Vodafone's portfolio,” said group CEO Vittorio Colao.

“Vivek has extensive telecoms and technology leadership experience coupled with a strong track record in emerging markets.”

Both assume their new roles in mid-October and will report to Colao. Badrinath will join Timuray on the group executive committee.

Badrinath joins from AccorHotels and previously held various positions at Orange and Orange Business Services, the latter of which he was CTO for its mobile activities. He informed Nokia’s board last Friday that he would be leaving, effective immediately, following his appointment at Vodafone.
