Virgin Media names first 10 locations for broadband rollout

Virgin Media has named the first 10 areas in the UK to be connected to its ultrafast broadband following its announcement to invest £3 billion to roll out services.

The 10 communities – selected by local households and businesses – include four areas in Scotland as well as areas in Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset, Leicestershire and Buckinghamshire.

The communities will see fibre broadband delivered directly to their premises (FTTP).

Last month the company pledged to roll out FTTH to one million UK homes and businesses by 2020, as part of its ongoing £3 billion Project Lightning network expansion plans.

The UK government aims to roll out ultrafast broadband to around 95% of the country by the end of 2017.
