Elisa claims 880Mbps in G.fast tests

Finnish operator Elisa has claimed that G.fast tests on its commercial network have reach speeds of 880Mbps, claiming that speeds could one day achieve over 2Gbps.

According to Elisa, the company will begin selling G.fast connections as soon as possible, but the present regulation of fixed networks means that it is not possible to carry out this technology yet.

The news brings hope to many Finns living in housing estates or old blocks which have no fast fibre connections as very high speed connections could be created over existing copper wires.

Elisa has stated that fast network connections with speeds of up to 1Gbps may soon become possible for broadband users connected via the copper network as a result of G.fast, which doesn’t require that the housing’s internal network to be renewed.
