Orange announces new PoP in Amman to improve Middle East internet connectivity

Orange will open a large-capacity IP point of presence (PoP) in the Middle East, the company said on day one of International Telecoms Week

The operational launch of this facility, which is located in Amman, Jordan, is scheduled for the beginning of June 2016 and will enhance internet connectivity in the region by offering faster connection speeds and improved reliability for wholesale customers.

The PoP will enable local networks to access the internet through an interconnection point with long-distance carrier networks, said Orange.

With a huge IP traffic growth in the Middle East and with no transit offer currently available, Orange will offer a fully secured alternative solution in the region. As a fully redundant IP PoP, this new facility opens up the region and allows Orange to offer high quality, secure connections over the wholesale market to Middle Eastern countries.

Thanks to its strategic position and assets in the region, Orange is ideally situated to address the market with an IP PoP in Amman. Orange already has a strong existing customer base, through Orange Jordan, and over the medium and long term, the Amman IP PoP will facilitate the expansion of the Middle Eastern IP market.

Orange offers a full range of services to customers for connection to the Amman PoP, including value added and professional services if needed.

By connecting to this very large-capacity PoP, wholesale customers, regional operators and internet service providers will benefit from cost-effective connections to a tier-one operator.

Additionally, the customer experience will be improved due to this connection point which will bring content providers closer to internet users.

With the opening of this new PoP, said Orange, the company enhances its position as a major internet connectivity enabler in the Middle East, where capacity is constantly increasing.
