BSNL to deploy 2747-km cable in Assam region

India’s BSNL is to deploy 2,747km of cable infrastructure in the Assam region aimed at providing improved network and connectivity.

The cable will cover 1,010 gaon panchayats (GP) in 91 blocks and 19 districts in the Assam region.

To date, BSNL has laid 1,850 pipes and over 1,570km of optical fibre cable, according to M K Seth, chief general manager of BSNL.

Approximately 10,000 next-generation network (NGN) lines will be deployed in a phased manner at Dispur, Noonmati and Dharapur Exchanges in Guwahati and neighbouring areas. 23,750 lines are expected to be deployed in phase two.

"We are to exploit fully 10Gbps link between Guwahati to Chennai Gateway directly for better broadband services through Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) media due to heavy damage of our optical fibre cable. Also we are to exploit 2.5Gb between Guwahati to Agartala new International Gateway," added Seth.
