Boston-based IXP receives OIX certification

The Massachusetts Internet Exchange (MASS IX) has received OIX-1 certification from the Open-IX (OIX) Association.

It marks the first internet exchange point (IXP) in Boston to receive the certification, which defines the technical requirements and minimum service levels for exchanges.

MASS IX is provided in over seven data centres in the Boston metro area. It was launched in 2015 by Towardex, which runs a state-wide optical network stretching 125 route miles.

“We’ve put in significant efforts to develop MASS IX into a state-of-the-art peering point which will ease and promote interconnections in Boston,” said James Jun, director at MASS IX. “We’re excited about the Open-IX certification because it signifies that MASS IX is delivering a world-class peering experience that is in compliance with professional standards focused on openness and neutrality adopted by the internet community.”

Metro Connect 2016 is taking place today and tomorrow in Miami. To view Capacity’s coverage of the event click here.
