The company came into operation in October last year under the Halotel brand and its mobile network is presently available in 1,500 towns and villages across 26 regions in Tanzania.
“With 18,000km of optical cable and more than 2,500 base transceiver stations (BTS) all over the country, the company can offer coverage to more than 90% of Tanzania’s population of over 47 million,” Le Van Dai, deputy managing director at Halotel, told reporters.
Halotel is a partnership between the governments of Vietnam and Tanzania and has a total investment of $1 billion.
“Because of the partnership between the two countries, Halotel will always abide by the governing laws of Tanzania for the investment to benefit both countries and citizens,” Van Dei continued.
Halotel is working to connect a further 1,500 villages in the future and Van Dai said that it is also implementing a number of social projects in the country, such as supplying schools with free internet.
