New Zealand’s Spark acquires CCL

Kiwi telco Spark – formerly Telecom New Zealand – has signed a conditional agreement to acquire cloud services firm Computer Concepts (CCL) for NZ$50 million ($33.3 million).

Based in New Zealand’s South Island, privately-owned CCL is an IT infrastructure and professional services company and the acquisition is expected to boost Spark’s cloud and platform IT services offering.

“Our strategy is to better enable our customers to succeed in a digital world, and cloud is an integral part of that. With CCL now in our group we are better positioned to assist New Zealand business needs in the areas of platform IT services and cloud computing,” said Tim Miles, Spark Digital CEO.

“CCL is complementary to Spark Digital. Its acquisition also reinforces Spark Digital’s commitment to business in the South Island, following significant investment in a new data centre in Christchurch (Perimeter road), and a recent expansion of Spark’s Dunedin data centre.”

The acquisition will take Spark’s employee numbers in New Zealand’s South Island to approximately 1,200.

Miles noted that the CCL brand will be retained and the company will continue to run as a standalone business.

“CCL will retain its own unique way of working,” said Andrew Allan, CEO at CCL. “Our customers should expect the same total commitment to their future success, with the added power of Spark New Zealand behind us.”

In April this year, Spark sold its wholesale voice business to My Net Fone as part of its wider strategy to focus on a more digital future.
