Thailand's True to launch 4G service next week

Thailand’s True Corp is set to launch its 4G service on its newly-acquired 1800MHz spectrum next week.

The operator will provide LTE over the 1800MHz spectrum band to complement its current 2100MHz network.

True and Advanced Info Service (AIS) emerged winners of Thailand’s first 4G licences in November 2015, outbidding rivals by each paying over $1 billion for 15MHz of 1800MHz spectrum.

"We are preparing to launch our high-speed 4G service ahead of AIS to fight for a bigger market share," Thiti Nantapatsiri, group executive director of True told Bangkok Post.

"We have a combined 25MHz of operating bandwidth for 4G commercial service, compared with AIS having only 15MHz," he added.

True’s announcement follows last week's news that AIS will launch its first 4G service in mid December 2015. Unlike True, AIS has not provided 4G services in the country.
