French watchdog investigates Numericable-SFR's fibre investment

The French competition watchdog has launched an investigation into Numericable-SFR following a complaint from rival Bouygues Telecom that it is failing to fulfil its agreement to deploy fibre networks.

The Autorite de la concurrence said it will review the terms under which Numericable-SFR is complying with its commitments to fibre rollout.

The investigation relates specifically to an agreement between Numericable-SFR and Bouygues Telecom in 2010, under which both jointly invested to deploy fibre infrastructure in densely populated areas. The deal predates Numericable’s acquisition of SFR.

"According to Bouygues Telecom, the pace of connections that were actually achieved since 30 October 2014 has significantly slowed down – to such an extent that the compliance with commitments is threatened," said the watchdog.

Under terms of the agreement, Numericable-SFR was responsible for installing the infrastructure while Bouygues contributed financially.
