XL Axiata selects Ericsson for Indonesian 4G

Indonesian operator XL Axiata has signed a three year contract with Ericsson for the roll-out of a 4G network in the country’s capital of Jakarta.

The deal includes all hardware and software required for the delivery of 4G services and the Swedish vendor will also upgrade XL’s existing 2G and 3G networks in Jakarta and Central Java.

“We are keen to work with Ericsson to bring this next-generation technology to Indonesia,” said Dian Siswarini, president director and CEO at XL Axiata.

“We are looking forward to the implementation of the 4G/LTE network and the improved mobile broadband experience this will deliver for our subscribers.”

The 4G network is expected to deliver improved network capacity and enhanced speeds to Indonesians, enabling them access to faster web browsing and improved smartphone performance.

“This contract demonstrates Ericsson’s leadership in technology and services in Indonesia and further extends our long-standing relationship with XL Axiata,” said Thomas Jul, head of Ericsson Indonesia and Timor Leste.

“Ericsson’s LTE solution will enable XL Axiata to deliver unique experiences for people, society and businesses, thus shaping and accelerating the Networked Society in Indonesia.”

In March, Ericsson aided the launch of a cloud-based M2M platform in Indonesia in partnership with Ooredoo’s Indosat.
