The move is designed to allow spectrum presently being used for 2G services to become available for 3G and 4G services.
The majority of mobile customers in Singapore use 3G and 4G services, with only a small percentage still using 2G-only mobile devices. They will be able to continue using 2G services until the network closure date.
Singapore first launched 2G services in 1994, but now boasts extensive 3G and 4G networks.
Earlier this month, Telenor Norway also announced plans to close its 3G network in 2020, five years before it closes 2G.
