T-Mobile Czech Republic and Alcatel-Lucent complete 400G trial

T-Mobile Czech Republic has completed what it claims is the country’s first 400G-speed data transport trial in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent.

The trial, which leveraged 320km of the operator’s existing network between Prague and Hradec Králové, proved T-Mobile’s ability to meet increasing customer demand for data, and laid the foundations for the delivery of higher capacity enterprise and wholesale services in the future.

“Besides our existing commitments, delivering high bandwidth access via TeraStream, it’s also key for us to permanently verify new and innovative technology options,” said Vladimir Klein, CTO at T-Mobile Czech Republic.

“We always want to offer our customers the best user experience via technology leadership. Offering the fastest data speeds is a natural part of it. This 400G trial shows how advanced our network already is and that we are able to meet higher bandwidth needs of our customers in the future.”

Alcatel-Lucent deployed its 400G agile optical networking technology on top of T-Mobile’s existing DWDM network infrastructure, which is designed to allow operators to scale their networks without costly reengineering or expanding their footprints.

“This is the latest in a number of successful trials using our 400G technology and underlines our leadership in IP networking,” said Alan Ilczyszyn, sales manager at Alcatel-Lucent.

“These trials show the real application of our 1830 PSS DWDM optical transport network solution in allowing providers to smoothly evolve capacity and grow as their customer demands grow.”

In January, Alcatel-Lucent and Vodafone partnered for the successful trial of 400G data transmission
