Omantel fined $13 million

Omani operator Omantel has been fined 5 million rials (approximately £13 million) by the country’s regulator, Reuters reports.

Omantel reportedly revealed the fine in a bourse statement, but did not disclose the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)’s reasoning behind the charge.

The operator has allegedly disputed the charge and will take the case to arbitration.

Omantel appointed Talal Said Marhoon Al Mamari as chief executive of the company in June 2014
