Data traffic growth in Cambodia is among the highest in Asia-Pacific, and the network is expected to address this demand and provide much-needed additional capacity.
The network will also connect to a submarine cable landing station, and is designed with the eventual upgrade to 400G capacity in mind.
“We recognised the need to upgrade our network to meet customer expectations for ultra-broadband connectivity and high reliability especially as it pertains to international reach through Chuan Wei’s submarine cables,” said Eric Lee, executive director at Chuan Wei; a member of the AAE-1 cable consortium.
“We were looking for a network with significant increase in capacity, even more reliability, and a high degree of scalability to prepare our network for 400G and beyond.”
Alcatel-Lucent will use its Agile Optical Networking portfolio for the deployment – which includes WDM, OTN and GMPLS/ASON solutions – in order to ensure scalability, versatility, reliability and efficiency of the 100G network.
“We knew that Chuan Wei’s top priority was to provide reliability to their customers but they also wanted to offer ultra-broadband,” said Jean-Christophe Gaucher, Cambodia senior officer for Alcatel-Lucent.
“We were able to show that we can give them a cost-effective solution that accomplishes all of their goals in a way that no one else could.”
