Microsoft reaffirms focus on network infrastructure at Capacity Latam 2015

Frank Rey, director of strategic sourcing at Microsoft, reaffirmed the company’s focus on network infrastructure at Capacity Latam 2015 yesterday.

As the company approaches its 40th anniversary, it has been exploring ways to provide a “globally distributed low transaction cost platform” for its customers.

“Our customers want a globally distributed but ubiquitous experience across any device,” said Rey.

Microsoft has deployed over 100 data centres in 40 countries, amounting to over 1 million servers in the past five years. Rey confirmed the company is aiming to surpass 2 million servers by 2016.

“Over the last few years, we have moved our focus from enterprise consume, to becoming a wholesale customer, to now being a network infrastructure enabler,” said Rey.

Rey added that the organisation is looking to change its presence at Capacity events, and wants to share details of the network it has built with the wholesale community.
