Foxconn to launch MVNO services in China

Foxconn Technology Group is set to launch MVNO services in China through its subsidiary Xunjie after the Chinese New Year holidays, according to China’s Commercial Times.

The manufacturing company has partnered with China Telecom to offer mobile services over China Telecom’s CDMA2000 network. The MVNO will initially target Foxconn’s 1 million employees across China and Taiwan employees as customers.

The trading arm of Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry, Foxconn will become the first Taiwanese company to obtain an MVNO license in China.

The Chinese government has issued a series of MVNO licenses which has seen a shakeup in the country’s telecom market. E-commerce giant Alibaba has also partnered with China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile to provide MVNO services.

Foxconn entered the mobile carrier business last April, acquiring a $390 million stake in Taiwanese company Asia Pacific Telecom.
