GCX nears vendor selection for ICX cable

Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) has shortlisted three vendors for the construction of its India Cloud Xchange (ICX) subsea cable between India and Singapore.

The route was revealed in June last year and is designed to bypass existing terrestrial routes between Mumbai and Chennai in India.

The vendors have not been disclosed but Bill Barney, CEO at the company, expects this to happen in the coming month.

“We will finalise the vendor selection process and initiate the process to construct the ICX cable which will integrate with our GCX global network infrastructure for direct connectivity to major business centres in Asia, the Middle East, North America and Europe,” Barney said.

Spanning approximately 5,060km between Mumbai and Singapore, the route will be based on 100G technology with a four-fibre pair system and initial design capacity per fibre pair at 80 x 100G.
