During a meeting this week, Chan-o-cha said that Huawei had already made a significant contribution to the country’s communications industry.
“We’d like to invite Huawei to participate in this initiative as a major investor and ICT vendor,” Chan-o-cha said.
“We believe that Huawei can act as an advisor as we build a digital economy and assist us with talent cultivation and knowledge transfer, and thus jointly transform Thailand into an ICT hub in Southeast Asia.”
Huawei has been present in Thailand for 15 years and over the years has trained more than 10,000 technical professionals in the country. Most recently, the Chinese vendorpartnered with Thai operator AIS for the upgrade of its mobile network in the country.
As part of it strategy to develop Thailand’s digital economy, Huawei plans to cultivate 100 ICT experts over the next five years.
“Huawei is ready and eager to respond to the Prime Minister's call, and will continue to help the Thai government implement its reform towards a digital economy and cultivate more ICT professionals for local communities,” Hu added.
