Vodafone extends LTE-A across Australia

Vodafone Australia has extended its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network – which it calls 4G+ – to customers in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The operator uses the 850MHz and 1800MHz bands to offer these services, and 396 4G+ sites have gone live across Queensland, with a further 704 in New South Wales.

“This type of spectrum we’ve used for our new low-band network means customers’ devices will work even better indoors, including homes, business, shopping malls and car parks,” said Benoit Hanssen, CTO at Vodafone Australia.

The company added that it expects to switch on additional sites before Christmas this year as it looks to achieve its goal of 95% population 4G coverage by the end of 2014.

In August this year, Vodafone Australia selected Ericsson as its sole supplier for the upgrade of its core national network.
