Huawei and Red Hat partner for cloud solutions

Chinese vendor Huawei and software solutions provider Red Hat have today revealed a partnership for the global deployment of the latter’s OpenStack based cloud solutions.

The agreement will see Huawei combine its domain expertise and global telco experience with Red Hat’s OpenStack platform to help CSPs embrace and fully utilise cloud computing.

“Through open collaboration with partners like Red Hat, Huawei aims to support the business reform and transformation of the telecoms industry,” said Ren Zhipeng, president of cloud computing product line at Huawei.

“This partnership will focus on NFV and the development of joint solutions to foster an open, interconnected and innovative ecosystem that supports the entire OpenStack community."

Huawei and Red Hat will work together to contribute NFV-enabling features to the OpenStack community and aim to become the foundation of highly scalable Infrastructure-as-as-Stack (IaaS) solutions.

"Carriers and telecommunications service providers are under pressure to modernise their network infrastructure to meet demands created by new service offerings and the explosive volume of data crossing the network. As a result, many are exploring the benefits OpenStack-based clouds can bring to NFV projects,” said Tim Yeaten, SVP of infrastructure business at Red Hat.

“By combining Huawei’s leadership in the telecommunications industry with Red Hat’s leadership in OpenStack and, more broadly, enterprise open source, we are well positioned to deliver cloud solutions that enable carriers to meet their network modernisation challenges.”

In May this year, Red Hat signed an agreement with Telefónica and SDN specialist Cyan to develop NFV architecture.
