Telekom Austria Group offers smart meter connectivity across Austria

Telekom Austria Group has prepared its network to support a smart meter solution across Austria.

The smart meter, which is called Österreich Zähler, has been developed by Telekom Austria Group M2M and leverages the operator’s GPRS network. It claims to offer nationwide coverage without the need for additional infrastructure, offering a cost effective solution to domestic electricity providers.

Telekom Austria Group has already partnered with regional electricity supplier E-Werk Wüster and Danish smart meter manufacturer Kamstrup for its first project in Austria.

Moving forward it will also work alongside European smart meter supplier Kaifa, which has delivered a total of 22 million smart meters across the region.

“By collaborating with Kaifa and Kamstrup, two leading industry suppliers, Telekom Austria Group M2M is not only able to provide a future–proof solution based on a standardised mobile technology but also a secured sourcing for GPRS meters,” said Bernd Liebscher, MD at Telekom Austria Group M2M.
