Vodacom names Cuba as new chief strategy officer

African operator Vodacom has announced the appointment of Yolanda Cuba as its new chief officer for strategy and business development.

The appointment will be effective from November 1, and Cuba will become a member of the group executive.

She previously served as an independent non-executive director, and was a member of the company’s audit, risk and compliance committee.

Cuba also has experience as an executive director for strategy and business support at South African Breweries (SAB), and before this she was appointed as chief executive of the Mvelaphanda Group in 2007, becoming one of South Africa’s youngest CEOs.

She will take over from Neil Gough, who presently holds the position after joining Vodacom in August 2011.
