The deal will see Paratus Telecom’s Ethernet, voice and IP VPN footprint extended via PCCW Global’s MPLS/IPX network – which covers 3,000 cities in 130 countries – as well as benefit from PCCW Global’s participation in the WACS (West African Cable System).
PCCW Global will in return gain additional access to Paratus Telecom’s operations in Angola and Zambia, countries where the latter’s voice platform is soon to be extended.
“This collaboration is an important milestone in the development of our international business, especially for international data and voice services,” said John D’Alton, MD at Paratus Telecom. “It will extend coverage of our services beyond Namibia to the rest of the world and vice versa.”
The agreement is expected to boost overall business development in Africa, with Paratus now able to offer services to 40 nations across the continent.
James Welch, VP and head of sales for EEMEA at PCCW Global, said that the agreement was also a key element of the company’s wider development plans in Africa.
“In particular, it provides routes whereby our MPLS customers can have additional access resilience to Namibia, Angola and Zambia, as well as the rest of Africa, and in doing so we will continue to be focussed on providing high quality service,” he said.
In April this year, PCCW Global signed a similar MPLS agreement with Telecom Namibia to enhance the incumbent’s international network coverage.
