Sprint unveils unlimited data tariff plan

US carrier Sprint has unveiled tariff plans to offer consumers unlimited data for approximately $60 a month, giving the industry its cheapest data offering.

The company is attempting to improve its subscriber numbers, after claims from rival T-Mobile that that it will overtake Sprint as the US’ third largest carrier by the end of the year.

Mobile operators in the US continue to increase subscriber base as the market reaches saturation, and Sprint’s latest offering is $20 cheaper than T-Mobile's unlimited plan.

Sprint’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile fell through earlier this month following regulatory concerns that the deal was anti-competitive.

Both carriers are trying to make up ground on market leaders Verizon and AT&T, and Sprint’s new CEO Marcelo Claure has placed a big emphasis on price cuts, in an attempt to turn around customer defection due to a network overhaul that has caused problems with its coverage.
