Frontier to upgrade network in Monmouth

US-based Frontier Communications is reportedly planning an upgrade on its network in Monmouth, Illinois.

The announcement follows a number of outages and service interruptions over the past 12 months, and was revealed in a statement from Kim Zugmaier, the area’s general manager for Frontier.

“A major infrastructure project is now underway for this area,” Zugmaier confirmed.

“That means our customers will get faster, more reliable Internet service, and have access to new products,” Zugmaier said.

The company will invest an estimated $3.5 million into the upgrade which is expected to enable broadband speeds of up to 40Mbps.

Frontier said the project will be implemented in a number of stages with some set for August and the rest to be conducted towards the end of 2014.

Late last year, Frontier acquired AT&T’s local exchange operations in Connecticut for $2 billion in cash.
