Vodafone Australia chooses Ericsson for network refresh

Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) has selected Ericsson as its sole supplier for the upgrade of the operator’s core national network.

Ericsson will use its core technology to provide VHA with a robust nationwide network, as well as integration services for voice to enable VHA to expand its business and customer operations.

“Our choice of Ericsson’s technology and services is an essential part of VHA’s programme to increase our network performance and customer satisfaction,” said Benoit Hanssen, CTO at VHA.

Ericsson will implement its evolved packet core and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) which is expected to allow for the introduction of next-generation communications such as voice over LTE (VoLTE).

VoLTE enables HD voice calling, as well as access to voice and data services at the same time over LTE, with no compromise to data connectivity speeds.

“Our agreement with VHA includes delivering our complete core solution and introducing VoLTE,” said Håkan Eriksson, head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand.

“With Ericsson, VHA will upgrade network architecture which will improve network reliability, performance and efficiency.”

VHA has been under new management since January 2014 following the appointment of former Vodafone Romania chief executive, Inaki Berroeta, as CEO in Australia.
