Telstra launches global cloud unified communications service

Australian carrier Telstra has launched a global cloud based unified communications service to enable business to collaborate in real time across the globe.

The solution, which first launched in Australia last year in partnership with Cisco, is now available in four continents across 25 countries, and will be delivered across the carrier’s worldwide network to over 2000 PoPs.

"Our new global service is a significant development in global collaboration capabilities and has been designed specifically for today's dynamic workplace where employees use the web, video and voice to drive innovation and improve productivity," said Nathan Bell, Telstra Global Enterprise and Services, director marketing, portfolio and pricing.

The service will be delivered via Telstra’s cloud infrastructure, which has now extended to seven locations across the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.

"Telstra Cloud Collaboration allows global customers to focus on their core business priorities whilst benefiting from a services model managed by Telstra, without the need for on-premise systems,” added Bell.

Telstra and Cisco have partnered on cloud for years, and the agreement builds on Cisco’s announcement that it will build a global Intercloud in collaboration with Telstra in March.

The development is designed to provide a highly secure cloud platform to meet the growing demands of the internet.

"Cisco is excited to offer Telstra tools and capabilities for delivering rich collaboration experiences," said Thomas Wyatt, VP and general manager of Cisco's Collaboration Infrastructure Technology Group.
