Huawei and China Mobile deploy LTE TDD AAU

Huawei and China Mobile have announced the successful deployment of what is claimed to be the world’s first LTE TDD 8T8R active antenna unit (AAU) in Hebei, China.

The new AAU is designed to simplify installation for operators by integrating the antenna unit and the remote radio unit (RRU) in one box, removing the need to install two separate units.

It also improved cell edge download rate by 55% in field tests and has been deployed in approximately 10 countries, including the UK, Germany, Singapore and Russia.

China Mobile was the first to deploy Huawei’s LTE TDD AAU in 2013, and the 8T8R AAU was eagerly adopted in Hebei, with plans in place for a large-scale deployment in the future.

China has seen a huge growth in LTE demand over the past 12 months and in June, China Mobile revealed plans to install over 500,000 4G base stations by the end of 2014.

In February this year, Huawei installed its AAU solution for Peru’s Entel.
