HGC GlobalCentre launches new facility in Kwai Chung

HGC GlobalCentre (HGCGC) has announced the launch of a new data centre in Kwai Chung, a town in the New Territories of Hong Kong, to add to an existing facility nearby in the region.

HGCGC is a joint venture between Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings (HTHKH) and Cheung Kong Limited, and the new facility will cover a gross floor area of over 110,000 square feet.

The company’s other facility – which is located in the town of Wong Chuk Hang – is 20km away from the new data centre, and HGCGC claims to be one of very few operators to own Tier-3 grade data centres both on Hong Kong Island and in the New Territories.

The company said it had attained ISO 27001 certification for operational security, and will have reliable benefits including a 24/7 network operations centre and building management system monitoring capabilities to meet the need of its customers.

Jennifer Tan, HTHKH COO, believes that the demand for data centre facilities continues to increase as a result of the evolution of cloud and Big Data.

“The sharply increasing e-commerce and cloud computing needs of local and global corporations are boosting market demand for data centre services,” she said.

“Following the inauguration of Kwai Chung data centre, the total capacity of our facilities has increased by 60% in terms of number of cabinets, while gross floor space expanded by 40%, enhancing the competitiveness of our global data centre business.”
