Level 3 Communications has announced that it is integrating the Equinix Cloud Exchange into its own Cloud Connect Solutions ecosystem. The integration is expected to deliver enterprises and government entities with greater access to a wide range of cloud service providers; offering a secure and high-performance alternative to the public internet. China Mobile has awarded the bulk of the contracts for the roll-out of its LTE networks to vendors Huawei and ZTE, according to sources. At the end of last year, it emerged that the operator had awarded contracts to European companies Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia, which were estimated to be worth approximately $160 million. Russia’s Rostelecom has announced a partnership with NEC subsidiary NEC Neva Communications Systems, for the expansion and upgrade of its mobile backhaul network. Japanese vendor NEC has deployed its microwave communications system - iPASOLINK EX - in a number of locations across Russia, in a bid to support Rostelecom's network in areas that are inhospitable to optical fibre. Bouygues Telecom has partnered with Ericsson for the launch of VoLTE services in France. The deal will see the Swedish vendor complete the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network integration in its multi-vendor environment. [read more]

Bulgarian operator Max Telecom has launched what it claims to be the first commercial 4G LTE network in the country. The 4G services will be available on SIM cards from Max Telecom, and the launch falls in line with plans from the company earlier this year to launch the service in the first half of 2014. Epsilon has been selected by voice and data service provider Vuetel Italia to improve delivery of its international networks in Europe and Africa. Vuetel will use SDH, Ethernet, IP, VoIP and co-location services from Epsilon to connect its customers in over 10 African countries. [read more]

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has confirmed plans to increase its network investment in the Caribbean and Central America. The company said it is aiming to return to revenue growth and improve earnings, and unveiled its new strategy after it posted a 5% increase in full-year core earnings to $608 million. [read more]



Algérie Télécom and Nokia have deployed a commercial LTE network in Algeria, claimed to be the first of its kind in North Africa. Nokia deployed its single RAN advanced solution for the roll-out and Algérie Télécom subscribers are now expected to benefit from improved coverage and high-speed services. [read more]

The Finnish government has announced plans to fund a new submarine cable connecting Finland and Germany, bypassing Sweden. The move breaks the country's reliance on Sweden for international data transmissions, following revelations that Sweden's agency responsible for electronic surveillance helped supply information to the NSA. Telenor Group and French vendor Alcatel-Lucent have signed a global framework agreement for the delivery of 4G LTE networks across Europe and Asia.Alcatel-Lucent will provide technology for the networks to Telenor subsidiaries in 13 countries across the regions. [read more]

Global Capacity has signed a wholesale agreement with PEG Bandwidth for the delivery of enhanced connectivity to markets in the US. Ethernet backhaul network provider PEG Bandwidth now has access to Global Capacity's One Marketplace via bilateral interconnects in New York, Ashburn, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Dallas. [read more]
