Ericsson names new CSO

Swedish vendor Ericsson has appointed Rima Qureshi as the group’s new chief strategy officer (CSO).

In addition to her new role, which is effective from tomorrow, she will also serve as chairman of business unit modems.

As part of her new appointment, Qureshi be responsible for driving the company's mergers and acquisitions strategy and activities.

"Rima's comprehensive experience in driving both business and M&As, along with a solid track record in strategy development and execution, makes her ideal for the job,” said Hans Vestberg, president and CEO of Ericsson.

Qureshi joined Ericsson in 1993 and has been SVP and part of Ericsson's executive leadership team since 2010.

Between 2010 and 2012, Qureshi led the integration of the CDMA and LTE assets of Nortel Networks and ran the CDMA mobile systems business unit.

"The industry is going through a rapid transformation and I could not think of a more exciting time period to lead Ericsson's Group strategy development,” said Qureshi. “At the same time I am also looking forward to working closely with the team at business unit modems to ensure we are successful based on the industry's most advanced LTE thin modem."

Qureshi has worked in the global telecommunications and IT industry for nearly 30 years and has held leadership roles in R&D, sales, and services, in Canada, the US, Mexico and Brazil.
