TeliaSonera adds Washington data centre to US footprint

Nordic operator TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has expanded its US presence with the addition of the EvoSwitch WDC1 data centre in Washington DC to its North American backbone network.

EvoSwitch’s WDC1 data centre has high-density co-location capabilities and is expected to enable TSIC to deliver enhanced connectivity and international reach in North America.

“We keep expanding our network because end users keep demanding more,” said Ivo Pascucci, regional director for Americas at TSIC. “By adding the EvoSwitch facility in Washington, we further increase high-performance connectivity to and from the commercial centres in the region, as well as the opportunity for locally-based content and service providers to do business with regional as well as international reach at the speed of fibre.”

TSIC will also deliver its service portfolio – which includes IP, Ethernet, voice, mobile roaming and next-gen IPX – via EvoSwitch’s data centre.

EvoSwitch and TSIC share a long-standing relationship in Europe, where the operator delivers high-capacity connectivity using EvoSwitch’s data centre in Amsterdam.

“TSIC’s unique routes – coupled with a strong focus on mobile content providers, LTE operators and media companies – make them a great addition to our ecosystem,” said Eric Boonstra, president at EvoSwitch USA.

TeliaSonera has been placing a heavy focus on growing its presence in the US and last month, the company opened a PoP in Boca Raton, Florida.
