Liberty Global earns Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification
Liberty Global’s wholesale arm has today been awarded the Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification for its Ethernet services across Europe.
Granted by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), the qualification reportedly makes Liberty Global the first cable company to receive such certification on a pan-European level.
The company utilised Ciena’s network solutions to achieve the certification, which will enable Liberty Global to increase its end-to-end network reach.
“The European wholesale services market is changing rapidly, and demand for high-bandwidth services that reliably transport all forms of data is growing exponentially,” said Chris Coles, managing director of business services at Liberty Global.
“With Ciena’s technology we are able to provide certified Ethernet solutions and deliver on our commitment to ensure continuous development of our network as well as driving greater co-ordination and integration of our wholesale operations across Europe.”
“These MEF CE2.0-certified solutions ensure that Liberty Global is well-placed to help carriers and enterprises architect their networks to deliver exceptional, high-capacity Ethernet services that are easy to deploy, ensure simple migration and enable programmable bandwidth,” said Nick Walden, managing director of EMEA carrier business at Ciena. “As a result, they can expand their reach across Europe with a trusted, service-ready network.”
The qualification comes at a strategic time for Liberty Global, which last month announced plans to create a European MVNO.
