Huawei and LG Uplus partner for LTE-A backhaul solution

Chinese vendor Huawei and South Korean operator LG Uplus have announced a partnership to deploy WDM/OTN technology for Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) backhaul on the mobile provider’s LTE-A network.

The solution enables pooled baseband processing for distributed base stations, saving fibre resources and improving network reliability.

LG Uplus was one of the first companies in the industry to commercialise LTE-A, with the aim of providing a full LTE service to its customers.

This new enhancement to the service further aims to maximise bandwidth and increase spectrum efficiency, in addition to occupying less footprint.

Huawei has been a pioneer in the WDM/OTN field, and has consistently been developing solutions for LTE backhaul.

“This significant development of WDM/OTN technology for CPRI backhaul – based on world-renowned technology by LG Uplus and Huawei – will serve as meaningful practice, and we will continue taking the lead in LTE technology through joint co-operation,” said Changgil Cho, VP of Technology Development centre at LG Uplus.

Huawei claims it has helped construct more than 200 100G commercial WDM networks.

“LG Uplus and Huawei’s innovation in LTE-A backhaul is a meaningful practice of WDM/OTN-to-the-edge,” added Jack Wang, president of the Huawei transmission network product line.
