Reliance Industries and Reliance Communications sign third infrastructure agreement

India’s Reliance Industries has struck its third infrastructure sharing agreement with Reliance Communications, this time to use its intra-city fibre network for 4G services.

The relationship between brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani – who own Reliance Industries and Reliance Communications respectively – has improved over the past few years, and a master services agreement was signed earlier today.

Reliance Industries owns telecoms unit Reliance Jio Infocomm, which owns the only nationwide 4G permits in the country.

The subsidiary struck a deal with Reliance Communications last year, and agreed to lease inter-city fibre for its 4G network. Both companies also signed a pact worth $2.1 billion for Reliance Jio to lease Reliance Communications’ mobile phone towers.

Reliance Jio has also signed similar deals with Bharti Airtel, and tower companies Bharti Infratel and Viom Networks.
