Cisco to launch cloud service

Network equipment vendor Cisco has announced plans to launch a cloud computing service, to be called Cisco Cloud Services.

The vendor will invest $1 billion into the build-out of data centres to support the service over the next two years

Cisco is said to be targeting the service at telecommunications companies, to allow operators to bolster their portfolios with Cisco’s cloud services.

"Customers, providers and channel partners... want to rapidly deploy valuable enterprise-class cloud experiences for key customers, all while mitigating the risk of capital investment," said Rob Lloyd, president of development and sales at Cisco.

Telstra has already announced a partnership with Cisco for cloud services.

In December last year, Cisco entered into an agreement to acquire BroadHop, a next-generation policy control and service management technology provider.
