11 operators form M2M alliance in Asia-Pacific

11 mobile operators across Asia-Pacific have today announced the formation of the region’s largest Machine-to-Machine (M2M) alliance for the deployment of the service.

The alliance is designed to offer a “one-stop-shop” experience for M2M deployment, and will serve as a centre for the development of M2M solutions to provide end-to-end regional capability.

Airtel (India), AIS (Thailand), CSL (Hong Kong), Globe Telecom (Philippines) Maxis (Malaysia), MobiFone (Vietnam), Optus (Australia) SingTel (Singapore), SK Telecom (South Korea), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) and Telkomsel (Indonesia) have all signed up the alliance, with the group serving a combined subscriber base of 500 million.

Bridge M2M Alliance claims to eliminate the complexity of dealing with multiple operators by offering the delivery of M2M services across geographical borders.

“Asia Pacific is made up of highly varied economies, uneven technological development and diversified regulatory requirements. As a result, multinational businesses find it extremely difficult to navigate the intricacies of the region and to fully capitalise on economies of scale,” said Alessandro Adriani, CEO of Bridge Alliance. “The evolution of Bridge Alliance in the M2M business is an indication of the commitment from the 11 operators to overcome these challenges for the success of customers’ businesses.”

Through the alliance, the companies will cooperate across various industries including vehicle telemetry, security and energy management.

It is designed to enable the development of new business models, the creation of new products and services by reducing customer operational costs. The alliance is also designed to build a ecosystem for technology partners including application developers, module manufacturer and service providers.
