Pacnet opens Singapore data centre

Pacnet has opened its $90 million data centre in Singapore, as it continues to aggressively pursue data centre opportunities across Asia-Pacific.

The Tier-III facility is said to stretch over eight storeys and 15,000 square feet, and will serve multinational companies and local enterprises.

It is directly connected to Pacnet’s subsea cable network, which offers 46,000km of fibre and connectivity to interconnected data centres across 14 cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company claims it is the first data centre in Singapore to be recognised with Uptime Institute's Tier Certification of Design Documents.

“With Singapore firmly entrenched as a dynamic financial hub, the Infocomm Development Authority's recent push to develop into a big data hub translates into a rising need for data centre services," said Giles Proctor, VP of data centre construction and operations at Pacnet.

The completion of Cloudspace II (SGCS2) brings Pacnet’s total data centre space in the Asia-Pacific region to 445,000 square feet.

In November, the company announced that it would invest $100 million annuallyin the expansion of its data centre footprint during 2013 and 2014.

The company also plans to launch data centre network services in Chongqing, China, after securing an Internet Data Center (IDC) licence from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last October.
