Orange acquires cybersecurity firm Atheos

Orange Business Services has announced the acquisition of French cybersecurity firm Atheos.

The deal will strengthen the company’s security offering by improving access-control management and data-loss prevention, as well as promoting proactive defence intended to identify vulnerabilities and detect subtle attacks.

The move will see the launch of a new business unit called Orange CyberDefense, which will fall under Orange Business Services.

The deal complements the company’s eight existing security operations centres around the world to make it Europe's largest “cyberdefence” company, according to Orange.

“Security is a critical concern for our customers, which means that the provision of robust security services has now become a strategic priority for Orange Business Services,” Thierry Bonhomme, VP of Orange Business Services.

Orange is one of the latest European operators to focus on security solutions.

Telefónica Digital and its security unit Eleven Paths launched a cybersecurity service portfolio in December last year.
